Let me schooch on over

bottle and jug arranged with vase of flower

Yesterday, I was on the train reading a book when a stranger sat beside me. I moved over slightly, hoping to offer them a seat. As I slowly looked up from my book and forced myself out of the daze of the paragraph I was reading, my eyes counted several open seats on the train. Before I could close my book and find another seat, the person next to me quickly got up, headed towards the back of the train cart, and exited through the back door just before the train doors closed.

Watching the doors close I said to myself ” well let me scooch on over”. As I moved over to take up more space on the seat I felt something hit my thigh. The person had left a package behind. I didn’t know if I should leave it or investigate it to find the person online to return it. Everything seemed to happen so fast. Their sitting down and leaving felt like seconds apart.

I opened the package, hoping to find a receipt with a name inside. The package contained two refillable water bottles filled with room-temperature water. A note inside the box had my address with a message that read, “Necie, your lips are hella dry. Drink some water, baby. Oh, and the weather is changing, so start slowly increasing the watering in the garden.”

I wish I could get daily reminders to drink water and water my garden less or more..just like this.

The train incident above was a part of my writing exercise prompt for the weekend. The scenario is extra and impossible in my day-to-day life. However, in real life, as winter ends, I aim to help my garden and plants transition by not slacking on my watering routine as spring approaches.

I have a few classes to lead soon, and staying hydrated will help me with the vocal aspect of holding classes again and allergy season in general. Today, I have consumed a good amount of water and plan to spend the rest of my day sipping away on teas I love.

I plan to spend the last of my Sunday watering plants, caring for roots, pruning dead leaves, and removing plants no longer producing fruit. I hope you all are well. Do you have any goals as we end winter? I will keep you updated on my journey towards staying hydrated and keeping the garden healthy for spring arrival.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read my blog and short stories. I appreciate those who leave comments and engage in any way. I don’t take your support lightly and look forward to sharing more.

  1. This was a good read! My plan for spring is to repot some of my plants that have outgrown their pots and learn to properly propagate my money tree.

    • Thank you for taking the time to read it. Your money tree you pointed out this week is beautiful, and I can’t wait to hear how your propagation goes. I hope you enjoy working with your plants and their new growth.
